The Premise

When the land of Sinistra was young, there was but one land, and one ruler to see over it in its entirety. He was known as King Augusten, and his queen was called Violet. Together they ruled for nearly thirty years and the people were happy, nothing was denied of them, and as long as they continued to work together nothing could go wrong. But, King Augusten was only one man, he could not have eyes and ears in every part of his kingdom for it stretched on for hundreds of miles in every direction, and there were traitors amongst his people.

These traitors were women, men, children, elderly, and they seemed to be just like every other person in the kingdom, but they desired more than the conventional life they had come to know. They wanted power, fame, glory, riches, things the King himself had but did not flaunt. They thought him a disgrace. So these people banded together, leading uprisings, murders and other forms of violence all throughout Sinistra. They were known as the Shadow, for they cast a dark glow on the lands that they visited.

King Augusten and his wife were fearful that if their tirade went on for too long within the land, it would spread and consume all that the people loved, all that they cared for. The guards didn't listen, the mystics did not believe, and the priests vowed that the heavens would save them all. Meanwhile the Shadow was growing, bringing the dark forces of the lands into their arms and promising them power. Among them were witches, trolls, harpies, serpents, and all manor of other beings.

This confusion, this chaos, led the people to believe that the end was near, they wouldn't listen to their beloved King when he told them that they had to fight. They would not leave their houses, and they no longer were able to trust their own neighbors, their friends. In the middle of this calamity Queen Violet announced that she was pregnant, and was going to provide an heir for the King, but the people revolted, insisting that it was their king that had brought this darkness into their lives. It was not long before Augusten was assassinated. The Shadow was winning their war, and they were going to claim their power soon.

Violet, however, had other ideas. She sought the strongest in the land, the wisest, the most compassionate and soon she had her own army that consisted of creatures of the light. There were elves, wind walkers, mermaids, shooting stars, centaurs, and even the sisters of the witches of the Shadow joined Violet's cause. There was talk of a great battle that was, as the people said, inevitable.

The Queen went into labor on the day the battle began. She was rushed to the nearest town, and gave birth in a log cabin as her army, aptly titled The Wind, fought against the Shadow. Countless lives were lost, there were hundreds of casualties on both sides, but at the end of the day there stood two beings. A witch from each side stood facing the other in the center of the field. They were sisters, and as they stood they both knew that it was the end. This was what they had been fighting for.

"I cannot kill you," Whispered the witch called Alaindra, from the Wind.

"I can kill you easily," Growled the witch called Elendro from the Shadow as she moved forward, gripping her sisters throat between her hands. Anyone watching this would've thought that all hope was lost, Alaindra was not moving, not fighting back, but she was crying as Elendro's hands squeezed her breath from her body. When it was over, Elendro stood, staring at the lifeless form of her sister. She was alone, there was no one to congratulate her, and no one to make her mind wander from what she had just done. It was then that she realized the depth of her insanity, and in desperation the witch took her own life.

Back in the log cabin Violet had just finished giving birth, to seven daughters. A man from the village reported to her that there was no one left alive on the battlefield, and the Queens grief was more than she could bare. She remembered a time when the people of Sinistra could love one another without question, and she knew that that time had ended. Her heart was breaking for the Kingdom she had loved, and the King that she had lost.

As the last act of her reign she declared that the land of Sinistra was to be split into seven provinces, one for each of her daughters to rule. In this way they could keep an eye on things in their own lands, and hopefully prevent the Shadow from ever returning. She died on her daughters' first birthday.

It was in this manner that the land of Sinistra became divided into the Seven Provences; Vaniara, Domarian, Evilical, Chaontic, Randor, Sparkleol, and Livinton. They are watched over by the seven daughters of Augusten and Violet, who are now twenty-two years of age, and old enough to make their own decisions for their lands.

It seems that the Shadow has been vanquished from the lives of the people forever, however, the granddaughter of Elendro still lives, and has carried the pain of her family for all these years. She is the Queen of the Witches Eight, a group that thrives on the pain of others, and the screams of humanity, and she plans to get revenge. She is building up the Shadow in secret, and this time, when she goes up against the Seven Daughters, she does not plan to fail.

This Land is about the second fight between the Wind and the Shadow, it contains elements of fantasy, horror, adventure, romance, and tragedy. Recently the Seven Princesses agreed to distribute journals to their people, in this way they can monitor what is going on when they are not around to see it. These journals can be viewed by the other citizens of Sinistra, but private entries can be made to certain people or just to your character. Everyone is expected to write in these journals at least once every two weeks, there is one warning, and then prison, to those who wish to rebel.

Of course the Witches Eight couldn't have this, so they distributed their own set of journals to the ones that choose to follow them, so that they too have some control over the land. But they are not so kind, there are two warnings, and then death to those that feel they cannot comply.

Who will you fight for?
